When shooting pool, the player is said to be at an extreme disadvantage if the ball he needs to shoot for is blocked by or behind the 8-ball. The shot, though not impossible, is exceedingly difficult and may only be accomplished by a confident, skilled, experienced shooter.
Almost every profession has a formula for success and advancement. Whether you want to be a doctor, carpenter, lawyer, chef, or accountant, a small business owner or corporate executive, there are steps to take, apprenticeships to accomplish, degrees to earn, internships to complete. There are well-traveled roads worn smooth by those who have gone before you. There are libraries of books and time-tested methods for going from Step A to Step Z and everything in-between.
If you want to be an artist, on the other hand, not only do the rules change, but there really are no rules anymore.
The pilot program of Beyond the 8-Ball will focus on the profession of acting mainly because, being one of the toughest in which to “make it” we figure if this method works for actors it will work for anyone.
- Participants will be chosen by the organization based on a wide variety of criteria.
- Potential participants will be contacted by the end of May and asked to complete a second, more detailed questionnaire. Final decisions will be made shortly thereafter.
- A group of 10-20 individuals will be selected to participate.
- This group will meet for 2 hours every Saturday morning at 10 am for 8 weeks with 2 follow-up sessions TBD.
- Future programs will require a fee, however, the Summer 2009 session is completely free to the participant.
- This is not a gimmick. The entire 10-week course is free. (We’re still developing the program and won't take anyone's money until we can prove the program works the way we know it can.)
