SUMMER 2009 – THE PILOT PROGRAM – ACTORS

The pilot Beyond the 8-Ball workshop is for actors and can be applied to anyone at any stage in their career, whether just starting out or seasoned vet. The group will be diverse and dynamic and specifically chosen from the pool of applicants.

Acting was chosen for the pilot program because, being such an illusive vocation by which to make a good living, we figure if we can succeed with actors everyone else will be a walk in the park.

The pilot program will begin by establishing exactly what stage each member has reached in his or her career and determining what the next level looks like for them.  Each participant will develop a game-plan based on what they intend to accomplish next, and will execute and refine that plan throughout the 10-weeks.

In subsequent weeks we will:

  • Explore the challenges facing actors in terms of skill, competition, the look, auditioning, agents & managers, classes, “luck,” networking, marketing, and, most importantly, commitment.

  • Examine the myths and realities of the acting profession and debunk the so-called mystery of why one person makes it while another misses the mark.

  • Identify preconceptions and misconceptions about the profession that serve only as debilitating obstacles to success.

  • Determine the truths about how things work and conduct experiments to provide proof of our discoveries.

  • Learn how to identify and create the opportunities that are usually written-off as luck.

  • Tailor the program to the individuals in the group so that optimal results are achieved.

In addition to the Saturday sessions, members of the group will meet, email, and chat informally for the purposes of support, networking, coaching, and advice throughout the course.

Success in this program will be directly proportionate to the level of commitment brought by each participant.

The group will meet for 2 hours every Saturday morning at 10 am.

There will be 10 sessions beginning Saturday, July 11 ending on August 29.

(Other, non-mandatory and individual meetings, chats, or phone conferences will be scheduled as the program progresses.)

Future programs will likely require a fee, however, the Summer 2009 session is completely free to the participant.

This is not a gimmick. The entire 10-week course is free. (We’re still developing the program and won't take anyone's money until we can prove the program works the way we know it can.)
